Every aspect of book cover design is crucial to your book’s success
Great book covers convey genre, narrative and brand through three main design elements:
Imagery: The image representing your work is critical in expressing the narrative or story you’re trying to tell. Imagery can utilize photographs, illustrations, eye-catching shapes and forms or combinations of all three. Digital editing and image manipulation open up new vistas of expression limited only by imagination.
Typography: Typography plays an important role in book cover design. Typefaces and fonts communicate narrative, express mood, touch upon emotion and can incorporate illustration when hand-crafted. There is a long design history associating certain fonts with genres, but you never want your book to appear cliched, derivative or boring.
Color Palette: Like type and image, color design affects mood and emotion, while associating genre and narrative. Colors are fundamental to our thinking, so much so that color psychology, the study of color and the ways it affects behavior, has long been used in advertising and marketing!
Our design team excels in typography, color psychology and imagery (photography, hand-created or computer-generated illustrations and 3D imagery) and will create your perfect and unique book cover. We work closely with authors and publishers to create original designs! Your cover is not finished until you sign off on it. Our team is highly trained and experienced, and we love what we do. Our chefs create masterpieces, not fast food - and there’s never a hidden cost or surprise!
Research and understand the subject before the design work begins
It’s very important for the book cover designer to understand as best as possible the subject matter of your Politics and Social Sciences book before conceptualizing color, typography or potential images.
For example, if a book deals with sensitive social or political issues, such as our rapidly aging society or never-ending conflict in the Middle East, the designer will educate themselves to better understand the topic and create a book cover that’s commensurate with the material at hand.
Color psychology is so important in Politics and Social Sciences book cover designs
All book cover design elements are important, but color takes on special importance: colors arouse various emotional responses, so it’s critical to use an appropriate color palette on your Politics and Social Sciences book cover.
Color psychology is utilized to convey cultural or social idiosyncrasies associated with the book’s overall theme. Academic essays, for example, may use monochrome cover design, while a travel book will employ rich colors that transport readers to a certain country or evoke a particular culture.
Tell a story through your cover’s artwork
The image representing your work is critical in expressing the narrative or story you’re trying to tell. Imagery can utilize photographs, illustrations, eye-catching shapes and forms or combinations of all three. Digital editing and image manipulation open up new vistas of expression limited only by imagination.
Define your genre through font choice and typographic composition
Typography plays an important role in book cover design. Typefaces and fonts communicate narrative, express mood, touch upon emotion and can incorporate illustration when hand-crafted. There is a long design history associating certain fonts with genres, but you never want your book to appear cliched, derivative or boring.
Consider the color palette associated with your subject matter
Like type and image, color design affects mood and emotion, while associating genre and narrative. Colors are fundamental to our thinking, so much so that color psychology, the study of color and the ways it affects behavior, has long been used in advertising and marketing!
