LITERARY FICTION BOOK COVER DESIGN
Character-driven literary fiction refuses any particular category or genre, though renowned titles often skirt one or more genres like adventure (Moby Dick), science fiction (Infinite jest), mystery (The Brothers Karamazov), detective (Les Miserables), romance (Madame Bovary) etc.
Though literary works focus on and explore human behavior through character and various philosophical, moral or religious themes, they employ plot devices such as murder, the supernatural, infidelity, lying, revolution or war, even if an actual plot eludes the reader.
A top web-based literary-agent database and querying resource lists literary fiction as the fourth most popular and requested genre after YA, fantasy and children’s literature. Stories outside traditional genres are big sellers and big business, so you need professional literary fiction book cover design to increase visibility, awareness and sales!

Your Literary Masterpiece Demands a Great Book Cover!
Nothing represents your book like its cover: it’s a critical marketing and branding tool. You need an experienced and talented design team behind you to stand out from the multiple literary fiction titles published each year. Your book cover design must stand out on bookstore displays and book-selling websites, generating interest and sales.
Coverkitchen cooks up visually stunning cover designs worthy of the hours you spend writing and the work you put into your book. Here are some great examples from our creative team of designers.
Notes for a Eulogy
Notes for a Eulogy explores relationships, truth-telling and the lies we tell ourselves and others. Because the protagonists meet up in diners, we worked closely with the author to express the narrative through napkins upon which one might jot notes. A simple but effective book cover!
Botchan
Coverkitchen was chosen to create this beautiful book cover, revising a modern classic by one of Japan's most cherished authors. The geta, or traditional Japanese wooden footwear, represent a journey through life’s many pitfalls and struggles. The chosen typeface evokes the graceful strokes of Japanese calligraphy.
Stitches
For this Southern Gothic about two cursed families, the we used multicolored threads (representing various characters) and created this stitchwork. The back cover details the title in reverse. The threads create a beautiful yet sinister image, representing the haunted narrative within.
Literary Fiction Book Cover Design
Literary fiction covers a broad range of themes, plot devices, characters and narrative styles. Unlike traditional genres such as fantasy, adventure, YA etc., literary fiction offers designers a great artistic license to convey the world rendered between the covers. Literary fiction book cover design has more freedom to explore photography, illustration, typography and color palette.
Our design team excels in typography, color psychology and imagery (photography, hand-created or computer-generated illustrations and 3D imagery) and will create your perfect and unique book cover. We work closely with authors and publishers to create original designs!
Your cover is not finished until you sign off on it. Our team is highly trained and experienced, and we love what we do. Our chefs create masterpieces, not fast food - and there’s never a hidden cost or surprise!
