A collection of stories set in disparate locations in Singapore, ranging from landed properties to migrant worker dormitories, each speaking of struggles, persistence and love.
The title itself refers to the two small fasteners used to hold finished edges of fabric together. To close these fasteners, however, is often very difficult to do so by yourself. The cover design concept is a visual continuum of the message in the title, making use of the double meaning of the eye, both as a clasp and as a human portrait. The line art illustration acts here as a boundary that literally pushes the title towards the margins of the cover, as are the unheard and under-represented voices in the book.
