Mixing virtual reality and 80s nostalgia, Newropía presents a dystopian mix of near-future soft science fiction and sociological nature, always from the angle of humor. Depicting a patchwork of gamified Europe composed of multiple biomes in different stages of development, this young adult novel tackles current issues including the ecological crisis, anti-capitalist criticism, and feminism, in addition to virtual worlds and how technological advances affect us all.
Borrowing visual cues from strategic action video games, the cover design makes use of a 3D rendering created in-house to depict the two settings that play the main roles in the story: a medieval-style realm of nature worshipers where magic is a legitimate field and a high-tech, high density corporate urban sprawl. The two are divided by the title as another structure sandwiched within the two competing environments.
